Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Oyo South Senatorial District.
Ajimobi emerged winner of the primary election conducted by the Chief Ademola Seriki-led electoral panel.
He defeated Dr. Fola Akinosun by 2,659 to 168 votes.
Seriki who announced the results in the early hours of Wednesday, said that the exercise, which started around 6:30pm on Tuesday, was delayed due the late arrival of voting materials from the national headquarters of the party in Abuja.
If the governor wins the election in the general election in 2019, it will mark his return to the Red Chamber, where he represented the state between 2003 and 2007 under the platform of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Senator Adesoji Akanbi, who currently represents the senatorial district, left the APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) late last month when it became clear that Ajimobi was interested in the seat. He will face Ajimobi for the battle to retain the seat in the 2019 election.
