The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District in the February 23rd Senatorial election, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and his party, have approached the election tribunal, sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, to challenge his Senate re-election loss.
This comes after he withdrew the same case filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Akpabio is seeking to upturn the victory of Mr Christopher Ekpenyong and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging cases of infractions and deliberate violations of the electoral law and guidelines of the polls.
INEC had declared Ekpeyong winner after he polled 118,215 votes to beat Akpabio who polled 83,158.
But Akpabio insists that result sheets from INEC office showed he scored 138,256 votes while Ekpeyong had 123,843.
