The management of the Univereity of Ibadan (UI) has imposed a partial curfew on its campus. This follows Sunday’s armed robbery attack on the female block of the institution’s post-graduate hall.
Recall that just weeks after armed robbers attacked the Obafemi Awolowo Hall of the University of Ibadan, another hostel, Abdusalami Abubakar Hall, was attacked on Sunday. The robbers raided two floors of the post-graduate hostel making away with valuable items and injuring two students.
Widespread condemntion greeted the development and serious concerns are now being raised about the security situation in the university with the management coming under severe criticism.
On Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Idowu Olayinka announced that rising from a University Security Commitee meeting to review the current security situation on the campus, a partial curfew from 12 midnight till 5am will be in place till further notice.
He said in a statement that the curfew begins midnight of Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
“All students and members of staff should be able to produce a means of identification if and when accosted by security staff,” he said.

The University Security Committee met today to review the current security situation on the Campus of the University of Ibadan.
- A major decision of the Committee is to enforce a Partial Curfew from 12 midnight till 5 am as from tomorrow, Wednesday 14th August 2019.
- All students and members of staff should be able to produce a means of identification if and when accosted by security staff.
- This partial restriction of movement will be in place until further notice.
- Kindly ensure strict compliance, please, as part of efforts of ensuring the safety of all members of the community.
