Blackface, one of the members of the defunct music group, “Plantashun Boiz” has threatened legal action against former music partners, 2face Idibia and Faze, including popular rapper, Ruggedman.
In an official letter from his lawyers, warning the trio about an impending copyright violation over the “Foundation Concert & Awards” slated for September 21, 2019, Blackface warned that the performance of any Plantashun Boiz song at the concert without his approval will constitute an infringement on his copyright.
The event which is being promoted by Ruggedman, is expected to have 2Baba and Faze as performers.
In his post on Instagram, Blackface said: “ Over the years this act of going to perform materials of #PlantashunBoiz at events without rehearsals and proper preparations has prompted me and my legal team to sound this as an advice to @ruggedybaba @2baba_official1 & @fazealone not to continue damaging the image of the #band and concentrate on performing works solely made by them individually and none from the #band or written by myself…thank you”.
Plantashun Boiz ruled the airwaves in the early 2000s dropping hits like “You and I”, “Knock me off” and “Don’t you know”.
After two albums, “Body and Soul” and “Sold Out”, the group broke up in 2004 after lead vocalist 2baba (then known as 2face) pulled out to pursue a solo career on the Kennis Music record label. Faze and Blackface also moved on to solo careers.
In 2008, they made a reunion album titled “Plan B” with great tunes like “Only you” and “If only”. They however kept fans heartbroken as the reunion did not really mend fences. Blackface has seemingly remained bitter about the break up of one of Nigeria’s most loved R&B groups.
