FIFA has ruled that Cardiff City FC must pay FC Nantes €6million as a 1st instalment due from the transfer agreement between the two clubs for the transfer of the late Emiliano Sala.
The decision was taken at the FIFA Players’ Status Committee meeting held on September 25 but the affected clubs were officially notified today.
Recall that Cardiff have refused to pay the £15m fee arguing that Sala was not registered at time of death.
Sala, who was. Nante’s striker, had signed the new contract with Cardiff in January 2019 and had gone back to France on Sunday, January 20 to say goodbye to teammates and friends. He was on his way back to Cardiff on the night of Monday, January 21 when the single engine Piper PA-46 Malibu plane disappeared from radar. A long search for the aircraft which was believed to have crashed in the English channel commenced until the 28-year-old Argentine was confirmed dead on February 7.
His father, Horacio Sala, died of a heart attack in April, three months after his son’s tragic death.
