The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has asked the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations to relocate to Jos, Plateau state where over 100 people were killed by suspected herdsmen.
The killers invaded three local governments over the weekend and destroyed lives in several communities.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the police said it has deployed two helicopters, five Armoured Personal Carriers (APC) and three PMF Units to affected areas in the state.
It said two Counter Terrrorism Units and intelligence units were also deployed.
Nigerians who reacted to the statement on Twitter however knocked the police for what they termed “medicine after death”.
Ahmed Adeyemi on Twitter wrote: “Reactionary policing is lazy, not cost effective and mostly never works. Where was the IGP when rustlers were killing! Where was intelligence when Fulani were regrouping for the terroristic massacres? We all know after few weeks it’s back to status quo”
Another user, @peekayok44, wondered if the amount of hardware moving to Plateau was to raise the dead.
@MVAustin1 wonders if the move is “to arrest those that want to protect themselves from invaders”
After Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) stated that the killings were retaliations for the theft and death of 300 cows belonging to the hersmen. The leader of the group, Danladi Ciroma, said in a statement that the killings will not stop if cows keep get missing.
There are calls for the arrest of the Miyetti Allah group with many believing that by justifying the killings, members of the group should be arrested and their group proscribed.
