The local government chairman of Dutse Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Bala Yargaba, was held hostage and beaten up by a mob of constituents on Monday, Premium Times reports.
They accused the council boss of non-payment of polling unit development fund meant for disbursement.
Mr Yargaba was reportedly able to maneuver his way into the local government secretariat after some initial beating.
The angry mob then cordoned the premises of the local government secretariat and stopped him from getting out.
Police and soldiers have taken charge of the situation.
