The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), on Friday said it will explore the possibility of using the November 16 governorship election in Kogi State to conduct a fresh election for the Kogi West Senatorial district.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Kogi, Nasarawa and Kwara states, Mohammed Haruna, stated this in Lokoja while answering questions from newsmen over the forthcoming governorship poll in the state.
Recall that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had earlier nullified Melaye’s election on Friday and ordered INEC to conduct a fresh election in the senatorial district within 90 days.
Haruna said since the governorship election is still 34 days away, there is a possibility for the senatorial election to hold the same day.
Speaking on concern being raised in some quarters on the possible manipulation of the card reader machine by politicians, he dismissed it as “practically impossible.”
He assured that the commission would allow a level playing ground for all candidates in the election, but appealed to them to play the game according to rules.
