There was drama today at the premises of an Ibadan Chief Magistrate Court, Iyaganku, Ibadan when Mrs. Yewande Oyeniran, the woman who allegedly stabbed her husband, Lowo Oyeniran, to death earlier this week was arraigned in court.
The chief magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani, ordered that the accused be remanded in Agodi Prisons till February 16, when the case will come up for mention.
But journalists had a tough one with prison officials who practically smuggled Yewande out of the court preventing journalists from taking snapshots of the accused.
They led her out through the staircases linked to the dock and smuggled her into a blue Nissan Primera that drove off followed by the black maria that conveyed other prisoners to the court.
The officials even threatened to break cameras!
During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Inspector Amos Adewale, told the court that Yewande on February 2, 2016 “at about 06:10am at No 30 Abidi Odan Akobo area, Ibadan in the Ibadan Magisterial District did unlawfully caused the death of one Oyelowo Oyediran, 38, by stabbing him with knife on the neck, which later resulted to his death.”
She however pleaded not guilty.
Her lawyer, Mr Seun Abimbola, had applied that the court should remand Yewande in police custody because she was traumatised as a result of the incident, but the magistrate refused and sent her to Agodi Prisons instead.
