A former member of the House of Representatives from Oyo state, Sikiru Busari, has become the prime suspect in the death of his wife, Oluwakemi Busari, whixh occured on June 30, 2018.
The former lawmaker had reportedly claimed that his 48-year-old wife died in her sleep at their home in Aerodrome estate, Samonda, Ibadan, but a petition written to the Commissioner of Police by the woman’s family through their lawyer, Martin Okuade, is calling for investigation, arguing that she was murdered.
Mr Busari represented the Egbada/Ona-Ara Constituency between 2011 and 2015 under the Accord Party.
According to Premium Times, the family said the bruises and stains of blood on the body of the deceased made it difficult for them to trust the statement that late Mrs Busari died from her sleep.
The online newspaper reports that a copy of the petition it obtained said the ex-Rep member failed to take the deceased to hospital immediately and did not contact any of the family members.
The former legislator was also said to have procured a death certificate indicating his wife died of cardiac arrest.
The family claimed their daughter’s body was covered in blanket in the bed until another ambulance took her to Molly Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ibadan, where the mortuary attendants saw the bruises and fresh cuts in many parts of the body with blood dripping.
Part of the petition, as published by Premium Times reads: “We were informed by the deceased family that as at Friday 29th June, 2018 there was nothing wrong with their sister (Mrs Oluwakemi Busari), she was in good condition, she was even found in her husband’s office healthy. On the 30th June, 2018 which was a Saturday, she was reported dead. Before her sudden death, she was living with her husband at Aerodrum, Samonda Area. Ibadan.
“Immediately after her death, her husband Mr Busari Sikiru Olayemi did not contact her relatives and explain to them. But one of her extended family heard about the incident and quickly went to the husband’s house. On getting there, he discovered that their sister was already lying dead and covered with a cloth.
“When the husband was asked what was responsible for his wife’s death, he told them that; ‘his wife died a natural death, she just slept and didn’t wake up’. He was then further asked, ‘was there any kind of attack by unknown persons in your house yesterday night?’ He responded emphatically again with a capital No!.
“Surprisingly, when sympathisers and one of the extended family of the deceased uncovered the cloth used in wrapping her dead body, they discovered that there were bruises on some part of her body including her head, with fresh blood on so many parts of her body, which suggests that her death was not natural as the husband claims?
“Photograph of the deceased was immediately taken as evidence that there was more to her death than a mere natural death.
“The families of the deceased are calling for a thorough investigation by the Police and an autopsy to be carried out on their sister’s body to establish the real cause of her death and the perpetrators be brought to book.
“At the time of this petition, Mr Busari Sikiru Olayemi has not notified the deceased immediate family of her death, as her corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.”
