The second Ife Summer Institute programme kicks off today (Monday, June 22, 2018) at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
The two-week programme is aimed at fostering innovative research of young scholars in the academy, particularly those in the humanities and social sciences, by exposing them to relevant theoretical and methodical tools in their respective disciplines.
According to the convener of the institute, Prof. Jacob K. Olupona of Harvard University, United States of America, about 30 scholars from the U.S., Germany and several African countries, including Nigeria, will participate in the programme.
Participants will engage in a wide range of themes and issues that are designed to deepen the understanding of research and teaching mission in the academy.
The summer programme is a residential programme. This year’s edition is themed: “The Knowledge Society and the Challenges of Doing Research in Africa:Theoretical Perspectives and Methodological Approaches.” It will hold from July 23 – August 3, 2018.
The guest speaker, Prof. Wale Adebanwi of the Institute of African Studies, Oxford University, United Kingdom (U.K)., will speak on ‘The Social Life of a Scholarly Publication: From Conception to Execution.’
Also expected in attendance at the opening ceremony is the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, academics from Nigeria and overseas, royal fathers and top government functionaries.
