A former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Federal Government to think carefully about the its reported plans to increase Value Added Tax (VAT).
According to Tinubu who spoke at the 11th Bola Tinubu Colloquium to mark his 67th birthday in Abuja, an increase in VAT is an attempt to further tax the ordinary man in the country.
According to him, increasing VAT at the present state of things in the country would make life harder for the ordinary Nigerian. He said those in charge of revenue generating revenue must begin to think of other sources of revenue.
Tinubu, who is a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), advised the government to rather widen the tax net and ensure that tbose who have refused to pay their tax are made to do so as a way of raising revenue for government.
