The political temperature in Oyo state may become hotter in the next few weeks over absence of the names of two major contenders for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for March 2 in the list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the state.
The names of Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Senator Olufemi Lanlehin of the African Democratic Progress (ADC) are missing from the INEC list.
Though, the duo have kicked off campaigns across the state, the Oyo INEC list indicates that they are not recognized as the candidates of their respective parties.
The current list has Dr Bamidele Ajadi as the candidate of ADC and Waheed Akanbi as that of ZLP.
As at now, it is not certain whether the electoral body will release another list or update the one that is with its Oyo state office.
Speaking on the development, the Public Relations Officer of INEC in Oyo State, Mr Wola Awolowo, confirmed that the list it has is what it will work with, adding that the commission in Oyo State is yet to receive any updated copy from its headquarters in Abuja.
