Israeli embassies and consulates around the world were closed down on Wednesday as diplomats and military attachés went on strike over a dispute with the Finance Ministry.
According to Times of Isreal, the dispute is said to be over expense stipends paid to envoys.
It was reported that the strike, coordinated by the Foreign Ministry, the Defence Ministry and the Histadrut Labor Federation, came after the Treasury reportedly backtracked on previous understandings and said it would force the envoys to pay back thousands of dollars that they had been reimbursed for expenses.
The closure came into effect at 1 a.m Isreali time on Wednesday morning.
The Isreali consulate in Atlanta, United States of America, shared the closure notice on its verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.
It tweeted: “An Announcement from the Consulate of Israel in Atlanta Re: Israeli embassies and consulates around the world close as diplomats strike.”
