All seven matches for Sunday in the SERIE A have been postponed to mourn Davide Astori, the Fiorentina captain who shockingly passed away in his sleep last night.
He failed to wake up at the La di Moret hotel this morning.
Fiorentina was due to play Udinese this afternoon. That game, the much expected derby between AC Milan and Inter Milan, and five others have now been postponed.
Some reports said the 31-year-old centre-back suffered a heart attack.
He leaves behind long-term girlfriend Francesca Fioretti and their two-year-old daughter Vittoria.
Astori had 14 caps for his country after making his debut in 2011 and had enjoyed a professional career spanning 12 years, which also took in the 2013 Confederations Cup.
Astori made 174 appearances for Cagliari over the course of eight years, which included loan spells at Roma and Fiorentina.
