The Kogi State Police command has denied claims that impeached Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, has been placed under house arrest.
Newspeakonline recalls that Achuba was impeached on Friday after the seven-man committee investigating allegations of gross misconduct against him submitted its report to the House of Assembly.
There had been rumours making the rounds since Friday that the former Deputy Governor was placed under house arrest, after heavily armed security personnel were seen around the Deputy Governor’s lodge in Government Reservation Area(GRA), Lokoja.
But the Commissioner of Police(CP),Hakeem Busari, on Saturday, said the presence of security personnel at the official residence of the former Deputy Governor was to prevent looting of government properties.
He stated that the action follows the advice given to Achuba to relocate from the official residence since he is no longer the Deputy Governor and has lost the entitlement to reside there, adding that the security personnel at the gate will remain until the impeached Deputy Governor finally moves out.
Achuba has however described his removal as an exercise in futility that will not stand, describing the action of the Assembly as a rape on democracy.
