A motion moved on the floor of the Oyo State House of Assembly for the disengagement of Osun State from the joint ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, has drawn the ire of the institution’s alumni association.
The House during the week agreed to consider the motion which was moved by the member representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, Hon Wumi Oladeji.
But institution’s alumni association has described the move as an attempt to ‘jeopardize’ the glowing future of the undergraduates.
A statement personally signed by its national president, Jide Bewaji, said that what should be paramount is the resolution of the fibancial crisis rocking he institution and “not the diversion of thoughts and the serial political blame game”.
It would be recalled that the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi had written a letter for the disengagement, followed by a protest by a socio-cultural group under the aegis of Ogbomoso Parapo.

According to him, what should be paramount is the resolution of the fibancial crisis rocking he institution and “not the diversion of thoughts and the serial political blame game”.
Bewaji chided Oladeji, who was a worker in the university before becoming a lawmaker, querrying: “Of what immediate benefit will this motion from Hon. Wumi Oladeji bring to the purse of the members/staffs of the striking unions? Will the move from the 32-man assembly end a semester that have spanned over eight months?
“I assume both State Houses of Assembly should prevail on the Executive governors to do the needful by restoring the lost glory of our alma mater, a university once adjudged the best in the country now ranked 21st.”In the wake of the unfolding drama over sole ownership, we direct all parents, guardian and concerned citizen of Nigeria to appeal to the conscience and reasoning of our leaders for an immediate end to the five months old strike that have paralyzed and crippled academic activities in Ogbomoso.
“As the owners of the university, the association under my watch will not hesitate to declare people with bleak motives and unrealizable ambitions as enemies of LAUTECH.
“Students whose patience have been frustrated should calm down as we are working round the clock to end the current imbroglio as we appreciate the understanding of the affected unions over the delay in payment of salaries and other emoluments.”
