The president of Ladoke Akintola University Technology Students’ Union, Oluwaseun Abiodun has dispelled the rumours that he has been suspended by the university management because he joined the campaign train of the People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Seyi Makinde, on campus.
In a statement made available to Newspeakonline on Friday, Abiodun said he was never suspended and remained a bonafide student of the institution.
His clarification comes after the school management announced the proscription of the Student Union over what it described as unpalatable and ugly situation on campus, “which has led to a situation whereby Student Union leaders were attacking one another thus lost control of the leadership of the Union”.
The school said: “To ensure continuity of interaction between students and Management of the University, a caretaker committee has been be put in place to interface between students and the University Management.”
“By this release, the leadership of the Student Union should hand over property of the Student Union and the University in their custody to the Ag Dean of Student Affairs with immediate effect.”
“We appeal to students of the University to continue to maintain peace and tranquility on campus and report any case of security threat.”
This happened after Makinde took his governorship campaign to the school and Ogbomoso town.
Part of Abiodun’s statement reads: “My attention has been drawn to news making wave on social media of my suspension by the University Management, as a result of a political rally by a gubernatorial Candidate in the School premises.
“This news being circulated by some people and faceless organizations are untrue and lacks credibility, as it poses no real picture of the happening in the institution.
“It is pertinent, I made it clear to the general public, that the student Union was proscribed as a result of unresolved and unreconcilable crisis that ensued between the Central Executive Council and the Legislative arm of the Union, over an acclaimed suspension of the Student Union President, the General Secretary and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), by the Senate President”.
