The candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the September 22 governorship election in Osun state, Mr Olugbenga Akintola, has advised voters in the state to resist vote-buying during the polls.
Akintola who spoke in Osogbo, the state capital at the weekend, insisted that the best of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to transform the lives of Nigerians and advised Osun voters not to sell their votes to them this time.
The governorship candidate promised to offer sincererity of purpose which he said was missing in the governance of the PDP and APC.
His words: “They have done their best but their best is not good enough. It is not that they have not done anything but their best is not good enough. What is missing is sincerity of purpose. So, people should take this election seriously. Don’t be threatened by anybody. Stay with your vote. When they offer you money, take it but vote according to your conscience because anybody that offers you money is a criminal.” also described the campaign as highly monetized. He said the parties that have been in governance are funding their campaign with so much money that nullifies the level-playing ground for others.
“The campaign has been very, very tough because of the injection of what I will call extreme money spending by major parties which are either in government or have been in government.”
