Osun State governor-elect, Gboyega Oyetola, was on Wednesday issued the certificate of return of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to confirm his victory in the recent governorship election held in the state.
Oyetola received the certificate from the Director of Legal Services, Oluwatoyin Babalola, who was acting in place of INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at the commission’s office in Osogbo.
Oyetola, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the keenly contested but controversial election that concluded last week after a chaotic rerun exercise.
Oyetola polled 255,505 votes, to beat Adeleke who scored 255,023.
INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the elections, Professor Joseph Afuwape, declared Oyetola the winner of the election last Thursday.
Senator Adeleke and the PDP have promised to challenge the result of the election at a tribunal, nothing that they have evidence that the election was rigged in favour of the winner.
