The camp of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oyo state, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu on Monday opined that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Seyi Makinde, is not prepared for the March 2 governorship election.
A statement issued by spokesman of Friends of Bayo Adelabu (FOBA), Dr. Bayo Busari, advised Makinde to withdraw from the governorship race because his performance at the governorship debate organised by Fresh FM on Sunday was an indication that he was not ready to govern an “upwardly mobile state like Oyo”.
The governorship debate featured five governorship, candidates in the state. They are: Adelabu of the APC, Makinde of the PDP, Hakeem Alao of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu of the National Interest Party (NIP), Olufemi Lanlehin of the African Demicratic Congress (ADC) and Sarafadeen Alli of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Commenting on Makinde’s performance, Busari said: “From his dull and shallow presentation at today’s debate we have come to understand the reason why he stayed away from an earlier debate organised by BBC Yoruba penultimate week.
“It’s clear that Engr. Makinde is yet to realise the enormity of the task ahead or his preparedness is not beyond that of a local government chairman.
“It’s quite unbelievable that someone who came out to contest for the coveted seat of the Pacesetter State four years ago still finds it difficult to marshal his thoughts, even with the passage of time.
“His performance has given credence to the popular saying that you can’t give what you don’t have, and we make bold to say that Oyo State deserves a better candidate and a better deal than Engr. Makinde.
Busari described Makinde’s responses at the debate as “uncoordinated” and lacking “clear thought pattern”.
He advised the PDP candidate to go back to the drawing board to prepare and equip himself better for the 2023 governorship election.
