Reports have it that the policemen in Ondo State on Tuesday invaded a pentecostal church (names witheld) at Shasha area of Akure, the state capital where they allegedly dug the church altar.
It was learnt that some former members of the church wrote a petition against the founder and pastor-in-charge that he buried fetish objects beneath the altar of the church in order to attract worshippers.
According to a source, the pastor’s trouble started after he and some mwmbers pulled out of the Christ Apostolic Church(CAC) by changing the name of the church to disclaim the CAC identity.
“After he changed the name of the church, some foundation and prominent members of the church started observing that he was derailing from the Christian doctrine,” the source said.
“They also observed that the pastor was being fetish, that he planted some fetish materials on the alter of the church. So many of them left the church .
“After leaving the church, they wrote a petition to the police to investigate the pastor. That must have been what prompted the policemen to dig the altar. ”
Police spokesman in the state, SP Femi Joseph, who confirmed the development said his men went to the church as part of the ongoing investigation into some allegations against the church founder.
He said the police would not speak yet on the allegations until investigations were concluded.
