The candidate of Providence Peoples Congress(PPC) for Atisbo, Saki East and Saki West federal constituency of Oyo State in the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections, Mr. Shittu Abdullahi Fowowe, on Friday asked the election petition tribunal sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, to cancel the election conducted in the federal constituency, citing the omission of his party’s logo on the ballot paper.
In a petition addressed to the tribunal, the candidate said that his party’s logo was excluded from the ballot paper by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which he claimed denied the people of the constituency from voting for him.
The respondents in the petition are the All Progressives Congress(APC) candidate and winner of the March 23 election, Mr. Olajide Olatunbosun; INEC; the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) in Oyo State and the Returning Officer for the federal constituency, Professor Niyi Togun.
In a related development, the National Assembly election petition tribunal has ordered INEC to allow the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) candidate for Oyo Central senatorial district, Chief Bisi Ilaka to have access to the materials used for the conduct of the election.
The order followed a motion filed by Joshua Olaniyan on behalf of Ilaka against the APC candidate and winner of the election, Senator Teslim Folarin and INEC.
Olaniyan said granting the motion would allow Ilaka to have enough materials to prepare his petition in challenging Folarin’s victory.
While ruling on the motion, the tribunal chairman, Justice Dennis Igyuse ordered INEC to allow the petitioner, his agents including his lawyers to inspect and scan all materials used in the election.
