The Premier League and social media giant, Facebook, have agreed a £200million broadcast deal over three years.
Facebook also beat BeIN Sports and Fox Sports Asia to gain live broadcast rights in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos from the 2019-2020 season.
The Times reports that the company has paid £200million at auction to show each season’s 380 Premier League games in the region, winning rights previously held by BeIN, a part of the Al Jazeera Media Network.
The move is Facebook’s biggest push into top level football. Previously the organisation have livestreamed MLS and La Liga matches on its platform.
US online retailer Amazon also struck a groundbreaking deal to livestream exclusive coverage of 20 matches per season from 2019. Domestic rights were once more dominated by Sky and BT Sport.
