Former new media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has tackled Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, over her recent advice to intending couples.
Mrs Adeboye, speaking at the ongoing RCCG Annual Youth Convention, had advised young people planning to get married to seek their pastors’ counsel before that of their parents.
Her words: “There should be no confusion in the house of God. You have to go to your Pastor first to consult for marriage before your parent”.

But in a post on medium, titled, “Pastoral Consent Before Marriage is Unscriptural and Unchristian”, Omokri, also a pastor, insisted that “biblical marriage has always been a family affair, not a church issue.”
His words: “From Genesis to Revelation, biblical marriage has ALWAYS been a family affair, not a church issue. Do not be deceived by any pastor, no matter how highly placed. Take your guidance from the Bible, not man. Get parental consent, not pastoral consent. Honour parents. Read the entire Bible yourself. Nowhere does anyone consult a priest before choosing a marriage partner. Isaac consulted his parents not a priest. Jacob consulted his parents not a prophet. The 10 commandments COMMAND you to honour your parents, not your pastor #RenosNuggets”
