An exclusive report has it that a son of a retired Supreme Court Justice and former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Muhammadu Lawal Uwais has allegedly joined the notorious Islamic terrorist group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
According to THE WILL, sources privy to an intelligence report that emanated from Saudi Arabia, say the man (name withheld) left Nigeria a few days ago for Syria, with his two wives and children to fight alongside ISIS, which presently controls large territories in Iraq, Syria and Libya.
Justice Uwais, 79, was CJN from 1995 -2006 and upon retirement served as Chairman of the committee that reviewed Nigeria’s electoral laws in 2007.
He has reportedly been briefed on the development.
This is the second time a member of a Nigerian elitist family will be linked to a foreign terrorist organisation. Recall the underwear bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was working for al-Qaeda. He is presently serving a life sentence in the United States.
He is the youngest son of Katsina born Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, a wealthy Nigerian banker and businessman, who had also served as a federal Minister in the 70s.
