Prominent indigenes of Ogbomoso who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of human endeavours would be honoured on Saturday, September 28, 2019.
A socio-cultural organisation founded by the late Inspector General of Police, Sunday Adewusi in 2001, Ogbomoso Community Foundation (OCF), is organising the award.
The event tagged “Night with Stars” will honour indigenes of the town who have positively impacted the town, the state and Nigeria at large.
A statement signed by a former military administrator of old Oyo State, General Oladayo Popoola (rtd), who is the leader of OCF, said the honour was to appreciate the recipients and encourage them to do more for the town. He urged every indigene of the town to take a cue from the awardees, stressing that they should also contribute to the growth of the town and make a positive impact on the society.
“The idea is to honour some of these people in their life time.
“ Someone like Chief Lere Paimo popularly known as Eda Onileola who turned 80 years old recently should be honoured for his great contribution to the entertainment industry in the country. It is better to honour people like him in their life time to show how they are appreciated,” he said
Asides Chief Lere Paimo, other awardees are late Chief Ogundare Foyanmu, whose unique poetic chants popularised Ijala Ode; Gongo Aso crooner, Abolore Akande popularly known as 9ice.
Others are Alhaji Ramoni Akanni; a thespian, Kolawole Ajeyemi(Awilo);Â Alhaji Wasiu Agara; Benedict Ayoola and Prince Femi Oyewumi.
Also on the list are Dr Samson Adegoke(Maigida), who donated a community maternity centre and e-library to Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) and Mr. Ayodeji Akande amongst others.
Enterpreneurs would also be recognised for their contributions to the economic development of the town
According to the statement, the event will hold at Viva Continental event centre, Iresaadu Road, Ogbomoso and it would chaired by a prominent Abuja based indigene, Air Vice-Marshall Jacob Bolaji Adigun(rtd).
