The national headquarters of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) has removed the leadership of the party in Oyo State and has named a caretaker committee to be headed by Aremo Adeola Adepoju who would now serve as the Acting Chairman of the party in the state.
The party, in a letter dated March 4 and sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said “the appointment of the caretaker committee shall be in force until the party takes further decision on the matter”, adding, “the committee shall be responsible for the party in all matters in Oyo State”. The letter was signed by the National Chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi.
The composition of the new leadership comes after erstwhile chairman, Chief Akin Alamu and some members of his executive council announced the adoption of Engr Seyi Makinde, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the March 9 governorship election in the state.
Newspeakonline recalls that the governorship candidate of the AD, Hakeem Alao, has distanced himself from any alliance with the PDP, stressing that he remains in the race for governor.
Apart from Adepoju, other caretaker committee members appointed by the national leadership include: Nicholas Farotimi (Secretary), Alhaja Fatima Mustapha, Hon. Adesiyan Hussain, Deacon Sunday Salako, Alhaji Ibrahim Gbadamosi and Tunde Samuel Ogunshola.
