The Oyo State Police Command on Friday evening confirmed that normalcy has returned to Odo Oba, Idi Ope, and the suburbs of Idi Arere areas in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of the state after group of hoodlums carried out attacks in the communities.
For several hours on Thursday and early hours of Friday, scores of residents were said to have been rendered homeless.
The thugs, reportedly armed with guns, clubs and other dangerous weapons, engaged in violent clashes, vandalising houses and vehicles in the affected areas.
A resident of one of the affected areas who spoke on condition of anonymity said residents fled as hoodlums in a violent rivalry clash sacked many from their homes.
“Many vehicles packed by their owners along the roads in the affected spots were vandalised, with many people sustaining injuries before the police arrived, hours after,” he said.
The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) in the state, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident, adding that that no casualties was recorded in the fracas.
He said the police responded promptly to the distress call of the residents, saying normalcy had since been restored.
